Stopping unwanted data changes in Excel 2007 (AutoCorrect)

E-mail Print PDF
If after you have been typing data into a worksheet, you look back and find that Excel has made some changes to words or letters, the following instructions will show you how to correct the problem.

Example of AutoCorrect: Typing HGE(short for a client named 'Hempstead-Gorton Enterprise'), will be changed to 'HE' if the AutoCorrect is enabled.

  1. Click the Office Button and then Click Excel Options.
  2. In the dialog that is displayed, on the left, click Proofing.
  3. Click the AutoCorrect Options Button.

AutoCorrect Dialog Box

At the bottom of the dialog box you see a list of AutoCorrect entries. Scroll through the list and find, for example 'hge'.
Select it and click the Delete Button.

Now you can type away without Excel incorrectly changing your acronym.
